Just wondering, but does anyone on the f-list watch Fringe?

It's a sci-fi TV series about an FBI division that researches crimes related to scientific phenomena. Along with the main FBI agent, Olivia, she has a team consisting of a formerly-insane scientist, his con-man son, and a research assistant. Through their investigations, they uncover the possibility of a war between a greater alien race and the human race, but because this is JJ Abrahms, nothing is certain.

If you guys haven't watched it yet, I highly recommend it if only to watch the scientist, Walter, and how his character evolves. He is one of my favorite characters currently on television - he is insane, but in a way that is both compelling and sincere. The actor who plays him is amazing.

I say this because Yang and I were watching the second-to-last episode, and Walter's character just tears at my heart. It's worth watching if only for his character. Joshua Jackson is also not bad. :)

On exam testing strategies:
"Professor, if I have a comparative advantage in multiple choice questions, and my neighbor has a comparative advantage in the analytical questions, should we engage in inter-chair trade during the exam?" -Jimmy

Response:
"For this exam, assume that you're in autarky, and if you DO engage in international trade, then there will not only be heavy tariffs, but also other heavy barriers to trade." - Prof. Wood

Yang: OMG
i thought of the best cartoon character antagonist name
Irate Pirate!!!
his nickname is IP
and he surfs the seas of the web and is a cyberpirate
:-D

me: HAHAHAH
i like it
:)

Yang: his greatest flaw is that he's angry
but the reason he pirates is because he wants to provide for his daughter calm clara
who is the only person that can stop his irateness

If I had any artistic skill, I would draw the cover for this for him. Because I think it's pretty awesome. ♥

Today in my Microeconomics class, my professor said something to the effect of, "The market doesn't care whether or not you buy the firm from the original owner. The market only cares if the firm is running efficiently."

To which I literally LOL-ed in class because the first thought that entered my head was, "Unless you're STEVE JOBS." XDXDXD

It probably isn't evident from my sporadic entries, but as busy as I have been this year, I absolutely adore all my classes. Regardless of how tired/restless/bored I may be in some of them, I still take great pleasure in learning everything that I am learning. I just wish my test scores would reflect the love and vigor with which I apply myself to my classes. ^_^;;

Ah, academia! I have finally, truly seen you for who you are. And I can't help but love you!

Dear Ludacris,

Your music is so ridiculous and fun. It seriously just makes my day.

I am so glad you're making a comeback.

With much love,

So, I absolutely completely totally adore The Game's "My Life". It's probably one of the newer songs I've heard that actually mean something. It makes me sad that the business is the way it is... because if we were going by pure rapping ability and content alone, The Game would win hands down. Too bad he isn't commercial. :/

And I am now just slowly understanding the complexity that is Lupe Fiasco's music. I must've listened to his albums at least 50 times already, and every time, I catch something I didn't notice before. The man really puts time into his craft.

There is in general too much to listen to. I have Jay Chou, DBSK and Epik High downloaded on my computer, but alas, have not had the time to listen to their albums. Is it bad that of all these, I am most excited about Epik High?

In any case! The first wave of intense work is over. BRING IT SECOND WAVE! I've got coffee on standby for tag team duty. :p

P.S. Running on two hours of sleep. This will be fun.

So, apparently, the bailout plan failed.

These politicians need to stop worrying about backlash from their constituents and grow a pair of cajones.

Because constituents are going to be pissed at you anyway if in the next few weeks our economy crashes harder than the Great Depression.

I mean, how hard is it to trust the likes of Warren Buffet, Paulson and Bernanke? ESPECIALLY BUFFET. The man is one of the RICHEST people on the planet, which he largely made playing out U.S. markets. He donated a shitload of money to financial institutions to make this thing work. This is one of those times when the interests of a money-savvy making man are inline with making our economy survive. TAKE THE DAMN ADVICE!!!

I like being busy. There's something very nice about constantly having stuff to do, and it forces me to do something I am horrible at: staying calm under pressure. It's a rough struggle, that fight between the nervous fear that constantly wants to break through and the clamps of control that are not as strong as I want them to be. But! Such is life, right? :)

This week, I am working on a case competition that I know nothing about, reviewing another case I do know something about, working on problem sets, and going on retreats left and right. Last night, I kept giggling and making silly comments at Yang, and poor Vance thought I was going crazy from the stress... Truth is, despite the fact that this coming week is going to be insane, I'm actually kind of excited. Even if it's a lot of information to sort through, find, understand, it's interesting.

And last comment: The DBSK Mirotic MV is SEXY. I was so happy watching that today. :)

So! I have been missing from this lovely journal much more than I should. Which is hilarious because I check it multiple times a day. Some of the more important stuff:

- I have developed a strong love for cooking. Even though it's really simple stuff (pasta salads, curries, stir fries), I can't help but feel accomplished every time I finish making a dish. There is also something extremely relaxing about timing how long a chicken boils in the pot, or to chop garlic into a fine pulp. Looking back on how I was to now, I realized how much practice has made the thought of cooking on my own less scary. Today, I made soba noodles with peanut sauce all by myself, and it tastes lovely. I'm happy at the result, and am only sad I don't have nice bowls to take pictures of my noodles in. This is so different from just three months ago when I refused to cook without Yang around to supervise.

- I got into Imagical, one of the more competitive advertising related organizations on campus! Both Vickie and I did actually. I think going through the interview process just further reaffirmed how much I enjoy marketing. For our group interviews, we were given a sample marketing project, and we were given 20 minutes to prepare an entire marketing campaign. It was really hectic, but it was ridiculously fun as well.

Looking at it, I think I understand how much difference a year makes for these kinds of things. Last year when I applied, I was nervous, unsure, and nothing I said had any real substance or knowledge behind it. This year, it was a lot less stressful - the individual interview was just like having a conversation with a few friends. And I have all those internship interviews and the past long summer to thank for that confidence and ease.

Hum. I can't think of much else in the way of life right now, but more updates to come as I can think of them. Life is pretty mundane - lots of class, lots of studying, lots of time with the boy... and it kind of repeats. In a good way though.

I ♥ my family. The family vacation was very fun, and it was good to see my mom so happy. I am not a good enough daughter to her; must not get wrapped up in my own world so much!

AND! Got to meet Yang for a brief three hours because he is in Jersey for business training. I didn't realize until yesterday, but he often takes my hand and kisses it as we walk around. I forgot how loved I feel when he does that. ♥

Generally, lots of love to go around. I am sad I will be leaving home, but I'm also excited for the coming year. School is too much fun. X)

So, on Tuesday, Connie, Vickie and I went to the Glay concert at The Fillmore... SO MUCH LOVE. I don't have much to say other than it was so awesome getting to see them live. Teru is really cute. Jiro is really, REALLY cute. Hisashi is really good at what he does. And Takuro is such a dork!! The way he interacted with the crowd was so sassy and you could tell he thought he was The Shiz (probably right so). The set was only a little under two hours long, but it was really fun. The crowd was surprisingly very well mixed - lots of old and young people, lots of ethnicities, lots of tall people blocking our view. >:( ALSO! I'd have to say one of my favorite parts of the show was when they took a picture with us. It was really sweet that they just stopped everything they were doing to capture a good memory of the concert. ♥ ♥ ♥

And have I mentioned the way NBCOlympics.com covers the Games stories really annoys me? I checked the website because I went to sleep before they broadcasted the men's all-around for gymnastics, and what do I see? Underneath the photo of Yang Wei and his gold medal was the following caption:

It's unclear what impact a healthy Paul Hamm might have had on Thursday's men's all-around, writes Alan Abrahamson. But the history books will forever show that China's Yang Wei fulfilled his destiny.

I don't understand why Paul Hamm needs to be mentioned at all. He got injured, which admittedly sucks for the Americans, but he withdrew before the games went on after we all knew he had had a persistent injury for quite a few months. I hate that NBC has to downplay the sheer ability and athleticism of Yang Wei just to put an "American spin" on it. Yang Wei was the best gymnastics men's all-around athlete during these Olympics period. Why can't NBC just let Yang Wei have his gold medal moment graciously? And don't even get me started on the verbiage of "fulfilled his destiny". -__-;;

I am mad at NBC for not broadcasting the opening ceremony live. Why couldn't they broadcast it twice, once during the live ceremony and a second time at 7:30pm.

So, I've been on a hip-hop/R&B/whatever-John-Legend-is-considered run. I bring you, random lyrics and songs that I am listening to. Looking on what I'm listening to now and what I listened to a lot just a year ago, it's kind of scary how much my taste has changed.

Oh well! I will need to get back into the Korean and Chinese music soon. I don't like to admit it, but I'm waiting for Se7en's English album before I touch Korean music again. And all these Korean artists going to Japan to make music? I don't like it.

Never Never Land
Right next to Peter Pan
'Cause nobody wants to grow old
Those fellas live in Never Never Land
They'll never understand what its like to be in love.

Never Never Land, Lyfe Jennings

Okay, so the song itself is pure sap and R&B. Can I help it if I find the reference to Never Land very clever? I like this song for this reference alone. <3

So, I typed a text to a girl I used to see
Sayin that I chose this cutie pie with whom I wanna be
And I apologize if this message gets you down
Then I CC'd every girl that I'd see see round town and
I hate to see y'all frown but I'd rather see her smiling

International Player's Anthem, UGK

I just really like Andre 3000's opening verse. The song itself is about a former pimp and how he's giving up that kind of life to get married. The music video is really amusing, especially in the beginning. I hate Big Boi's rap. But the beginning is just awesome. ♥

Save Room, John Legend
I don't think the lyrics for this are that good, but I like the melody. It's so groovy! I just wish the music video wasn't so sexualized. I don't know why, but I'm convinced John Legend wants to be the new Barry White, non-low voice be damned.

So I just finished the first, new recreational book I've read in years, and I've got to say... it was kind of a disappointing venture.

Has anyone read David Sedaris before? I picked up his novel Naked and have spent my free time during this summer reading it. For those who haven't read his books before, they include short stories about his life and its craziness. Each chapter/story reveals something about himself or society while making you supposedly laugh until your sides split.

My sides were not splitting. Aaaaand the stories were more downers than anything else.

BUT! Yay for my first foray into reading. Now, to continue on my journey. I think I'm going to pick up a Neil Gaiman book or two, and then go from there. Any recommendations on that front? :D
